More birthday cupcakes…

12 02 2010

We celebrated more birthdays today for some stuffed animal friends. Bean got these cupcakes for her birthday and they are such a fun set. (Thank you, Auntie!) She loves to bake and decorate them! And, she always wears the oven mitt when moving the cupcake pan around. Certainly a lot easier than making cupcakes or candies for all of Bean’s friends!

A Birthday!

11 02 2010

Mighty Man is 1! We had a small party at the grandparents’ house to celebrate the occasion. Much fun (and cake!) was had by all! The secret to the mega-block cake is here. (If you decide to make one yourself, be forewarned, it will take all day!)

MM loved his cake and even sneaked some off of Bean’s plate while she wasn’t looking.

Happy Birthday, sweetie child!

Happy Birthday Little G

13 12 2008

Made it myself!!

Well this is a little late I know, but I wanted to post some pictures for you all to see.  Our little boy celebrated his one year birthday November 22!

It’s hard to believe a year has already past.  We had a bunch of our friends over for sloppy joes, brats and cake (a fire engine cake for the kids and a whiskey cake for the adults- hey it’s just as much a celebration for the parents as it is for the baby!).  Of course I over estimated how much cake people eat.  This, in addition to the cake we have from my husband’s promotion ceremony, means we are going to be eating cake for a very very long time!

Concentrating hard on his first taste of cake

My little boy is growing so fast.  I knew to expect it, but for some reason it seems faster the second time around.  (And it’s not only because he’s almost 29 pounds!)  Maybe it’s because my attention is more divided than before, or maybe because it’s easier to deal with each phase he’s going through.  Either way, every day I look at him and see him becoming more of a toddler and less of a baby.

Thanks Mom for the impulse purchase!

We are so blessed to have him as part of our family.  He is the happiest baby I’ve ever seen, always smiling and giggling.  He can walk pretty well now, and has started to even run, especially after his older brother.  It’s fun pretending to chase him because he runs away and giggles so much he falls down!  There is a lot of babbling, but no distinct words yet, although he does know the sign for milk.

Irish Whiskey Cake

11 07 2008

My in-laws who are visiting this month brought with them an Irish whiskey cake from Downey’s Cakes.  It was beyond good, but it was a very small cake, so we of course wanted to get some more.  I had the great idea to try to find a similar recipe so that we a. wouldn’t have to wait and b. wouldn’t have to spend an arm and a leg on another cake.  Well, I am not sure it will be as good as the original, but I found a recipe from the Washington Post  based on this famous cake and it looks promising!  It is currently in the fridge soaking up all the whiskey sauce.  We are planning on trying it tomorrow.

Here is a photo of the cake- the only bundt cake pan I currently own is a sandcastle cake mold.  Actually, it really works with the theme- an Irish castle cake with Irish whiskey!

We can't wait to try this!!

Update: We had the cake after dinner tonight.  It's a little strong on the whiskey, but overall it was really good and I only had a small slice so I want more :)  Great served with whipped cream, would be great with vanilla ice cream too.  Make sure you have a big glass of milk handy!
